Buyers and show-goers waited with baited breath for the beginning of the Valentino ss17 show in Paris, the first solo outing for Pierpaolo Piccioli after the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri, and the end of their successful design partnership for the house. All fears were quickly dissipated, and what was seen was the beginning of a new and beautifully written chapter for the house.
Taking inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, as well as the hand-drawn prints and floaty, haute hippy dresses of Zandra Rhodes from the ’70s and ’80s, the result was truly magical. Amongst the fairytale gowns the house is known for were some incredibly luxurious day wear separates, shirting and knits that will add a dose of Valentino luxe to your casual wardrobe.
In short, Piccioli not only met expectations but surpassed them too. We cannot wait to see how he continues to develop and expand on the codes of the house while injecting his own creative input.
