For his debut show for Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello chose the impressive surrounds of a derelict industrial style former monastery in the heart of Paris. This building is set to become the new Saint Laurent headquarters, and served as a metaphor for Vaccarello’s entry into the house, “it’s a work in progress” he stated.
Vaccarello concentrated heavily on who the Saint Laurent girl might be. “She’s certainly not bourgeois or classic. She has a huge respect for Saint Laurent, but not in the first degree. So I thought of her taking a vintage dress and cutting into it.” This vintage reference, and particularly an Yves Saint Laurent collection from 1982 formed the inspiration for the collection, seen in the puffed sleeves of shirts and dresses, washed out and patched denim, and a particularly amazing draped gold lamé dress. This was certainly a strong start for Vaccarello, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next!
