Olivier Rousteing is quoted during the presentation of his new collection.
The Balmain showroom is always abuzz with every buyer imaginable. Russia, Korea, Germany, Azerbaijan, China, too many to name. It’s the United Nations of the highest end of the rag trade. Each of us buying for the special client who adores Balmain, its sensibilities, its history, its modern edge.
Le Louvre has been buying Balmain since the 1950’s when bespoke wedding gowns and lunch dresses were ordered for the high society of Melbourne. Now Balmain has a new buyer, those that want the ‘look at me’ piece with the quality and workmanship that go with such an historical fashion house. It is Olivier Rousteing’s 5th collection for Balmain and we adore him. The 28-year old has breathed fresh air into the brand and the Spring Collection for 2014 was light and airy. Of course there must be the signature gold chain and button, the presence of a VERY wild animal and some leather but we loved the fun, soft colours of rose, ivory, peach and gold – not to mention the blush houndstooth blazer. Looking forward to its delivery in November.
