Amanda Briskin, founder A-Esque

Entrepreneurial Melbourne designer Amanda Briskin-Rettig founded her discreetly luxurious accessories label A-esque in 2012. All manufacturing is done locally in a very bespoke, hands-on way. With an anti-branding approach to design, A-esque is about classic shapes with quirky and fun detailing. The design process is based on evolution, with all handbags coming from an original four patterns. The bags are grouped into these patterns rather than names, re-enforcing the emphasis on design rather than branding. “Don’t buy it because of the brand. Buy it because you love it.” asserts Briskin-Rettig, and we couldn’t agree more.

Le Louvre customers will be able to  use A-Esque’s personalisation service, The Initials Bureau, where the customer’s initials can be placed on the bag, in effect, becoming the logo.

Home is…
A place I love to be.

What do you do…
I ‘do’ a very full life that encompasses a rich and busy family life with my three boys, my husband and wider family. I do exercise and holiday for balance, health and pleasure.
I started A-ESQUE three years ago which is a locally made leather goods brand for men and women. We have three stores and have embarked on select collaborations, remaining subtle and quiet. The brand is enjoying the growing support of local people and international customers who like what we do.

What can’t you live without…
Good health and feeling happy on the inside. ‘Things’ rate low for me. Health is number one. My husband and sons are the most important.

Your favourite piece from the current A-Esque collection…
I’m loving our tan gold backed carry-all tote. I’m feeling really good about this collection. As always it’s an evolution from where we have come, along with some new patterns, leathers and applications.

The most important design detail of an ‘everyday’ handbag…
Our needs change. Sometimes the most impractical details are the ones most valued because we are driven by desire.

The retail environment is changing in Australia, what have you implemented at A-Esque to ensure you are ahead of the game…
Our retail spaces are created with the same values and undertone as our collection. Service is central to our approach. Being personal, human and not treating people in a homogenous manner. Our approach is customer led, and not dictated by brand rules. Our rules centre around quality, respect, presentation and values.

What comes to mind when you think of Le Louvre…
Spirit, a point of view, a discerning taste level, an uncompromising pursuit of fashion in our local landscape, heritage, fearlessness.

Saint Laurent or Gucci…
BOTH! My favourites include my Saint Laurent leather bomber (from Le Louvre) and my metallic Gucci loafers (available at Le Louvre from November).

One piece of advice you always listen to…
I listen to a lot, digest and create my own pathways.

The off-beat bride.

At Le Louvre we cater to all sorts of brides, and certainly for those after something a little different for their special day. We want our brides to feel like themselves, and this may mean choosing something that is not necessarily long or white. Here is our edit of the chic options for the ‘off-beat’ bride.

Why not go short for your wedding? Feel as comfortable as any other day, and dance the night away with ease. A short dress means you need some killer shoes!

Lanvin Pre AW16

While we are still sad about the departure of the loveable Alber Elbaz, Pre-Fall 2016 contained strong elements of his signature style. Designed by Chemena Kamali and Lucio Finale who both worked under Alber, his presence is still strongly felt at the venerable French house.

“Our focus is on the Lanvin woman, who she was and who she could be,” Kamali said. That Lanvin women has never shied away from a touch of leopard, a little red dress, or a fabulous statement necklace. Pre-Fall ticks all of those boxes.

Chloé Pre AW16

Claire Waight Keller takes us back to beautiful basics in the signature Chloé colours of soft pale pinks, nudes, eggshells and classic black and white for Pre Autumn Winter 2016.

The beauty of this collection lays in the smallest of details, fine edged ruffle tops and dresses with side ties and tassels, gold beading down the side of a sporty pant, fine piping on a silk pyjama blouse, and delicate scolloping on cosy knits…

Finish off the look with burst of rich colour in your accessories. This season, we welcome the ‘Hudson’ bag to Le Louvre, a studded and fringed bag with signature gold hardware, and new colours of the ‘Drew’ bag.
